Family-centered HIV programming for children: Good Practice Guide

January 1, 2012
Organization: International HIV/AIDS Alliance, Save the Children

Families play a critical role in the lives and development of children, therefore there is a shift from targeting the individual child to targeting the family unit to support children affected by HIV. Recent evidence suggests family-centered approaches for supporting children affected by HIV improve outcomes for these children.

This guide was produced by the International HIV/AIDS Alliance and Save the Children to target HIV programmers and organizations working in community settings in developing countries in order to help define good practice for community-level HIV programs. This guide promotes a family-centered approach to HIV programming for children and contains information, strategies and resources to help program officers implement and achieve good practice standards. Organizations and programmers looking to apply a family-centered approach in programs providing services to children affected by HIV may use this guide as a resource.
