There is a major gap in the delivery of school-based care and support to boys and young men which is hindering programme and regional goals for gender equality, HIV reduction and improved educational outcomes for all children.

Partners in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Care and Support for Teaching and Learning (CSTL) programme conducted this study comprised of a regional literature review and fieldwork conducted in four countries (Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, South Africa). This report highlights the findings from the South African data and links these to the regional findings.  The research illuminates the challenges that boys face, programming that exists, and makes recommendations for improving school-based support for boys and young men.
