This policy brief describes the early marriage and female circumcision practices in Ethiopia, including reasons for the practice, resistance to change, changing trends and unintended consequences of imposed change. This brief ends with suggestions for bringing about change within a generation and notes key messages based off evidence from Ethiopia. Program designers, implementers and policymakers should consider the suggestions and information in this brief when designing programs and policies around early marriage and female circumcision.
