The goal of this study is to summarize and analyze evidence on special programs addressing the protection and support needs of children affected by HIV/AIDS in low prevalence countries. This main objectives of this study are to:
1) Review, analyze and document the situation of children affected by HIV/AIDS in low prevalence and concentrated epidemic settings related to health, nutrition, education, protection, placement, psychosocial and cognitive development as well as socioeconomic status and experiences with HIV/AIDS-related stigma and discrimination
2) Review analyze, and document evidence on interventions to support children affected by HIV and AIDS in low prevalence and concentrated HIV epidemic areas
3) Summarize the extent of the evidence base
4) Formulate and prioritize practical recommendations to strengthen the evidence base for programming on affected children
This document concludes with recommendations for linking evidence to programming, identifying areas needing increased evidence and directions for implementers to practically apply this information to programming.
