Social Protection and Cash Transfers to Strengthen Families Affected by HIV and AIDS

The International Food Policy Research Institute has conducted over 20 years of research on safety nets and social protection and 10 years of research on AIDS, food security and livelihoods. This paper is based on linking actors together surrounding these sectors to surface social protection in the field of approaches to reduce prevalence and impact of HIV. This paper reviews over 300 documents and 20 cash transfer programs around the world and reports on evidence-based impact findings on poverty, education, health and nutrition. This resource is helpful for policy and program design for interventions seeking to lessen shocks and strengthen resiliency within HIV and AIDS affected families.
