State of the Social Service Workforce 2015 Report – A Multi-Country Review

This first annual report provides an overview of data from 2014 on the social service workforce in fifteen countries. The report defines the ‘social service workforce’ as paid or unpaid, professional or paraprofessional, government or nongovernment workers in the social service system who promote the rights of and support vulnerable populations. The countries included in the report are: Cambodia, Ethiopia, Georgia, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Moldova, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Vietnam, and Zambia. Data was collected through questionnaires, legislation reviews, peer-reviewed literature, gray literature, and individual interviews.  The report explores trends in education and training, differences between government and nongovernment workers, the role of professional associations, and the impact of policies and legislation. The report includes the implications of finding on planning and implementing effective programs for vulnerable children and families.
