Social protection is a key strategy to reducing poverty, particularly in reducing economic, social, natural and other shocks. In the context of OVC, social protection is especially important in ensuring adequate nutrition, uptake of education, health and WASH, and access to social services. The objective of this study by UNICEF was to expose existing social protection mechanisms in West and Central Africa and provide opportunities and challenges in creating more effective social protection programs. Policymakers, program implementers and researchers may find this resource useful in building their knowledge base on social protection both in West and Central Africa and globally.
