What’s New in Research? October 2014 Edition on Adolescents

October 14, 2014

In this issue we focus on adolescents – the epidemiology of HIV and AIDS among adolescents, effective approaches to programming and especially preventing sexual violence, the impact of a national poverty reduction program in Kenya on choice of sex partners among adolescents, and operational research to support adolescent prevention and care programs. All but one of the papers are from the supplement of the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (JAIDS) published at the beginning of July 2014, edited by Susan Kasedde, Craig McLure and Chewe Luo from UNICEF, and Bill Kapogiannis from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute for Child and Adolescent Development. We review here five of the twelve papers in the supplement, all of which are freely available in .pdf format on the journal’s website – see journals.lww.com/jaids/toc/2014/07011 – as well as a report on the impact of Kenya’s cash transfer program on choice of sex partners among adolescents published in AIDS and Behavior.
